Fort Hommet Headland
The headland is home to rich habitats including a stabilized sand dune, wet meadow, and heathland, with rare species of plants, butterflies, and birds.
It also features a Victorian fortification, Fort Hommet, which was originally built to defend against the French but was added to in 1942 by the occupying German forces. The fortification is home to a restored gun site, as operational in 1943-45, with full interpretation.
Also on the headland, you can find the Shrine of the Sacred Heart. Formerly a searchlight bunker built by the German Occupying Forces during the Second World War, it was transformed by the late Hubert Le Galloudec using local shells to create biblical scenes, transforming it from a place of war into a place of peace and beauty.
