Nature

From spotting local wildlife on our beaches to wandering our stunning cliffs and exploring the many natural beauties of our islands, there's so much to do to help you connect with nature and wildlife during your stay with us.

  • RAMSAR Sites

On the Islands of Guernsey, Ramsar sites can be found on each one of our five islands: Guernsey, Herm, Sark, Alderney and Lihou. These wetland sites are designated to be of international importance under the Ramsar Convention, and are dedicated to protecting wetland habitats and the rare species that they support.

  • Birdwatching

Our Islands are a paradise for keen bird watchers, with over 200 species of bird recorded each year. Spring and autumn are particularly great for bird spotting, with the most sightings being recorded between February and May, and September and January - but you are sure to see a wide range of species no matter the time of year you visit.

  • Wildlife Walks

Guernsey is home to a huge variety of wildlife, from gannets and gulls to the humble Guernsey vole - native only to the Orkneys and Guernsey itself. The great diversity of species reflects the many different habitats that the island provides. The best way to discover the wealth of wildlife? Put on your walking shoes and venture outside, heading for the beaches, cliffs, woods and country lanes.

  • Lihou Island

Check the tides, pack your sandwiches and trek to Lihou Island from Guernsey's west coast. A wildlife haven and bird spotter’s paradise, Lihou and the surrounding area is a Ramsar site, which means they are recognised as an area of excellence when it comes to wetlands. It is now home to more than 200 species of seaweed and 150 species of bird.
