European Bunker Day

To mark European Bunker Day, Festung Guernsey will be opening a number of bunkers at Fort Hommet headland on Saturday 8th June from 2pm-5pm.
These include:
- A fully restored personnel bunker.
- An M19 automatic mortar bunker complete with the restored mortar.
- 10.5cm casemate housing a coastal defence gun and all the original equipment. (a small
entry charge will apply). - Le Galloudec Shrine – formerly a searchlight bunker built by the German occupying forces
during the Second World War, and later transformed into a shrine by the late Hubert Le
Galloudec, using sea shells to create biblical scenes.
Festung Guernsey will be on-hand to talk about the significance of these sites and their place in the ‘Atlantic Wall’: the 6,200km defensive line of German bunkers that spanned from Finland to France during the Second World War.
The event is free of charge, but donations are welcome. There is no need to book.
