Guernsey Observatory

Discover the wonders of the night sky at the David Le Conte Astronomical Observatory, home of the Astronomy Section of La Société Guernesiaise. Founded in 1972, the section welcomes everyone from complete beginners to experienced astronomers, offering a friendly environment to explore astronomy, astrophotography, planets, galaxies, nebulae and much more. 

Based at Rue du Lorier, St Pierre du Bois, the observatory features impressive facilities including a research-grade 16-inch Meade telescope, a 5-inch Takahashi refractor, solar observing equipment and dedicated observation areas. Regular Tuesday evening meetings combine talks, practical activities and observing sessions when skies are clear. Visitors are welcome to attend and experience the facilities first-hand.

The Astronomy Section also hosts occasional public observing evenings, educational group visits and outreach activities, providing opportunities to observe the Moon, planets, deep-sky objects and the Sun through specialist equipment. The group is affiliated with both the British Astronomical Association and the Federation of Astronomical Societies.
