Outdoor Autumn Activities
If you’re looking for some inspiration for outdoor activities to enjoy on the Islands of Guernsey during the cooler months, here are a few suggestions:
Autumn Hiking
Cliff walks and hikes are a cornerstone of Guernsey culture. With so many routes and views, it’s easy to understand why. Whether you are looking for a leisurely stroll or more of a challenge, our islands offer you a variety of walks for all abilities, with great views around every corner.
Our Autumn Walking Festival is also taking place from Saturday 14 - Sunday 29 September, where you can join experienced and professional guides from the Bailiwick of Guernsey Guild of Accredited Guides as they take you on scenic and historic guided tours all over Guernsey, Herm and Sark.
Year Round Sea Swimming
The Islands of Guernsey are one of the best places to get involved in year round wild swimming, and autumn is a great time to do it with sea temperatures being at their warmest during October. Close to the hotel is, of course, Fermain Bay: a breathtakingly beautiful spot for a high tide swim.
Further afield, explore the natural pools of Lihou and Sark, take a dip at La Vallette Bathing Pools in town, or take a look on our website or app to find the best wild swimming spots around the Islands of Guernsey. With secluded beaches, coves and natural pools, there are lots of options to choose from.
Exploring St Peter Port
Situated on the east coast of Guernsey with views out to our sister islands, Herm and Sark, St Peter Port is a charming town with cobbled streets blending history with excellent restaurants and local shops.
After exploring the many independent shops along the high street, why not take a stop at the peaceful Candie Gardens or visit Hauteville House, the former home of famous writer Victor Hugo.
Known colloquially as ‘town’, St Peter Port is also the island-hopping centre of the Bailiwick, where you can catch frequent ferries to Herm and Sark.
Getting Out by the Water
Get a taste of island life with some activities on the coast.
Learn about the history and many uses of seaweed on a seaweed foraging tour or get out on the water by hiring a kayak or joining a group paddleboarding lesson. After your adventures, take a stroll along the seafront and grab an ice cream or coffee and relax.
Indoor Autumn Activities
There are plenty of things to do indoors in the Islands of Guernsey if the rain does make an appearance. Here are a few of our suggestions:
Museums
The Islands of Guernsey have a rich history which can be discovered through our many museums.
Discover our wartime history through the Underground Hospital and German Occupation Museum or make a day out of exploring the four museums of Castle Cornet. Some museums and galleries, such as Guernsey Museum at Candie also feature a rolling programme of different exhibitions.
For avid history buffs, why not pick up a Discovery Pass, which grants unlimited free access to Castle Cornet and its museums, Guernsey Museum at Candie, Fort Grey and the German Naval Signals HQ.
Hotel Relaxation
If wild swimming isn’t your thing, or you simply want to relax, Fermain Valley Hotel has its own heated swimming pool open for a refreshing dip all year round.
The hotel also has its own private cinema with only 27 seats, offering an intimate movie experience.
Indoor Sports
If you have lots of energy to burn, Guernsey has plenty to do in the way of indoor sports and activities.
Challenge yourself at Up Climbing, try your hand at Indoor Bowls or visit the Guernsey Tennis Club to work on your skills.
Craft Time
Whether you want to learn to craft your very own TikTok-famous candle at Guernsey Candles or relax with some pottery painting, there are lots of fun, creative activities to try during your visit.
If you’re in and around town, pop into Iris & Dora or Make & Made to paint some pottery, participate in an art class or take a look around their gift store which sells locally-produced goods.
