This fort was completed in 1805. It was named after the Lieutenant Governor of the island at the time, Lieutenant General Sir John Doyle.

Built at Fontenelle Bay on the northern shore of Guernsey, Fort Doyle was part of the island wide fortification network designed to protect the island against a French invasion.

Originally three 18 pounder cannons were stationed in the battery in the fort, however during World War Two the occupying German forces heavily fortified the area with three coastal defence guns, anti-aircraft guns and mortars.
