Where to Practice Yoga on The Islands of Guernsey

Guernsey is a haven for those looking to relax and reconnect with nature. And the perfect place to reconnect with your mind and body too.

Yoga is the perfect practice for travelling as you don’t require any equipment or special clothing to be able to do it. Yoga retreats are also becoming more and more popular, so there are many ways to enjoy a wellness break on The Islands of Guernsey. When visiting our Islands, many hotels offer yoga classes in their gym or can advise of local classes nearby. You can even come and take part in one of the many yoga retreats available throughout the year. 

Here are your options to do yoga on the Islands of Guernsey:

Outdoor Yoga is a Treat

Yoga Classes at Hotels in Guernsey

Many of the hotels have yoga classes taught by local teachers. St Pierre Park Hotel has a gym and spa that offers yoga classes. The OGH also has a class timetable in their Revolution health suite that includes yoga. Both have spas to pop into afterwards and continue your relaxing experience. Fermain Valley Hotel have even recently completed a beautifully tranquil yoga house to practice in. 

 

Yoga Studios in Guernsey

If you want to join in with a yoga studio community during your time in Guernsey. There are now two yoga studios on the island. The first is the popular Rise, Guernsey’s first full time yoga studio run by Justin & Camacha Wolfer who came from New York to set up a yoga home in Camacha’s hometown of St Peter Port with their family. They offer daily classes of varying levels, welcoming to all. The studio is along the seafront - perfect for popping in before heading for a coffee in a nearby cafe.

 

The All About Yoga Studio is Guernsey’s latest addition to the yoga scene, as owner Megan expands her practice and business on the island after years of packed yoga classes. It is based upstairs at the Indoor Sports Centre in the Vale, ideal for those staying outside of the main town centre. The schedule is constantly being added to so keep an eye on their website for details. Take a class and then take a quick drive to the beach for a peaceful coastal walk to end your practice. 

Take a flow in nature

If you are staying in self-catering accommodation in one of the parishes, yoga also pops up on community halls across the islands. Over the summer months, local instructors host early morning yoga sessions at various beachside locations, such as Jerbourg Point and Port Soif. For a small price, you can experience the warmth of the rising sun and the nourishing effects of an hour’s yoga. Most announce the classes as Facebook events, so make sure you check listings during your trip to the Islands.

 

Yoga on the Smaller Guernsey Islands

Alderney: yogAlderney is run by a passionately curious local who hosts classes on the island a few times a week. Keep an eye on Clare’s Instagram Page to confirm times during your visit to the island. 

Sark Island: Sark has their own yoga teacher who runs classes twice a week at the Island Hall. Sark is a pretty peaceful place in itself but the island boasts their own yoga teacher who runs classes twice a week at the Island Hall for those who want to join the locals for an island flow. Check their Facebook Page for class times.

Yoga Retreats on The Islands of Guernsey 

A few of the Guernsey-based teachers run retreats on the other islands, such as Herm & Sark. It’s the perfect way to combine exploration with wellness. Many include other treatments, classes & experiences such as a nutrition consultation, reiki, massages, guided runs & walks and more. The events are hugely popular so be sure to keep an eye out for them on Herm.com and Sark.co.uk, as they sell out quickly with locals & tourists alike!

It’s 2020 and our Islands offer online classes for all to enjoy, even if you can’t visit for the time being. Clare from yogAlderney now hosts Zoom classes from their tiny island. If you . Keep an eye on her Instagram page for details of how to join in. Rise Yoga recently launched an online version of their studio and is building a library of classes to choose from. Visit their website for details. Emma from Beinspired has a huge number of free online yoga classes and courses for you to enjoy, from Yoga for Anxiety to Children's Yoga. This is the perfect way to support our yoga teachers from afar as you cannot be here in person this year.
