Poet Laureate Simon Armitage will create a new poem and acclaimed composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad, will compose a horn concerto, both inspired by Guernsey’s historic relationship with England and Normandy through the British Crown.

The new works are expected to receive their premieres at the internationally renowned Aldeburgh Festival on 21 June 2027 and in the Channel Islands shortly after. Performances will feature acclaimed horn soloist Ben Goldscheider, a leading musician of his generation and a champion of new music, together with the internationally respected Britten Sinfonia, widely regarded as one of Europe’s finest chamber orchestras.
