In 1942 and 1943, over 1,000 Guernsey residents were deported to internment camps in Germany. Homes were left behind. A small island community was torn apart for the second time. Why were they deported? What happened in the camps? And after liberation? In conversation with Rob Rinder, Gilly discusses her latest book A Materiality of Internment, and explains how objects can give us an insight into life behind barbed wire.
