Every day, headlines report ‘migrants’ crossing the English Channel in ‘small boats,’ with rescuers ‘overwhelmed’ and coastal towns ‘up in arms.’ In We Came by Sea, Horatio Clare uncovers a different story. Travelling between Dover and Calais and the Britain of migrants, refugees and those who care for them, he meets the volunteers, lifeboat crews and countless unrecognised people who help thousands each year. Bearing witness to hope, courage and humanity, Horatio reveals a nation as kind and generous as those seeking refuge believe it to be.
