Exile: The Evacuation of Elizabeth College
Elizabeth College is inviting the public to a special book launch in College Hall on Tuesday 3 November at 5.30pm.
Exile: The Evacuation of Elizabeth College, written by former teacher, historian and BBC presenter Bruce Parker (4747), tells the remarkable story of how the College survived five years away from Guernsey during the Second World War.
Following the German occupation of Guernsey in 1940, the College was evacuated to Derbyshire, where staff and pupils worked together to maintain school life despite being far from home. Drawing on previously unpublished archive material and featuring more than 100 illustrations, the book brings this extraordinary chapter of the College’s history to life, revealing a story of resilience, determination and the enduring strength of the Elizabeth College community.
Everyone is welcome to attend the launch in College Hall on Tuesday 3 November at 5.30pm.
Copies of the book will be available to purchase for £19.99, with Bruce Parker (4747) on hand to sign copies.
