Climb the 99 stairs to the top of the highest tower in St Peter Port, Victoria Tower, where you can enjoy panoramic views across the west, north and east coasts of Guernsey. It's the ideal spot for that breath-taking holiday photograph!

History of Victoria Tower

Victoria Tower was built in 1848 to commemorate the visit of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1846; a hugely important visit as it was the first by a reigning monarch.

The tower was also a secret meeting spot for Victor Hugo and his lover Juliette Drouet. Their initials can be seen carefully etched into the tower's imposing walls.

Construction of Victoria Tower

The tower includes different types of stonework and architectural features which were designed to represent the Queen, her empire and her achievements.

It is built largely of red granite from the Guet Quarry at Cobo, on Guernsey's west coast and stands 100 feet high.

Entry information

The key for Victoria Tower can be collected from the Guernsey Museum at Candie (located in Candie Gardens). Visitors are asked to return the key after a 30-minute viewing slot.

Entry to the tower is free.
