Armed Forces Week

The Guernsey Armed Forces Week Committee is delighted to announce a programme of events and activities taking place across the Bailiwick from 22 June to 28 June 2026 as we join communities across the British Isles in celebrating Armed Forces Week.

Throughout the week, Armed Forces Day flags will be raised at locations around the Island, including the main flag mast at the roundabout at the bottom of St Julian's Avenue. These displays serve as a visible reminder of our appreciation for the men and women who serve, or have served, in His Majesty's Armed Forces.

A major feature of this year's programme will be a unique exhibition showcasing the work of Colonel Valentine Rudolph Burkhardt DSO OBE RA – soldier, artist, writer and diplomat. Colonel Burkhardt was the grandfather of local resident Peter Burkhardt, who has very kindly loaned his grandfather's remarkable collection of artwork and medals for public display during Armed Forces Week in Guernsey.

The exhibition will be held in the Market Halls, St Peter Port, and will offer visitors a rare opportunity to view these historic pieces and gain an insight into the experiences and achievements of an extraordinary military officer.

Members of the Royal British Legion Guernsey Welfare Team will also be present throughout the exhibition and will be available to offer support, guidance and advice to any veterans, serving personnel or their families who may wish to speak with them.

The exhibition will be open to the public on:

  • Friday 26 June – 12:00 to 16:00
  • Saturday 27 June – 10:00 to 16:00
  • Sunday 28 June – 10:00 to 14:00

Admission is free of charge.

A highlight of the week's events will be a special evening with Mark Ormrod MBE, former Royal Marine Commando, triple amputee, bestselling author and Invictus Games gold medallist. Mark will appear "In Conversation" at Les Cotils on Friday 26 June, sharing his remarkable story of resilience, determination and service.

Armed Forces Week provides an opportunity for the wider community to show its appreciation for those who currently serve, those who have served in the past, and the families who support them. The Bailiwick has a proud and longstanding connection with the

Armed Forces, and we are fortunate to have many serving personnel, veterans and cadets within our community.

This week is about recognising the dedication, sacrifice and commitment of our Armed Forces community and thanking them for the service they give, and have given, to our country. We encourage everyone to support the week's activities and join us in celebrating the contribution of our Armed Forces family.
