St Peter Port will see the return of a much respected Guernsey hero: the former Arun class lifeboat Sir William Arnold. Lifeboat 52-02 was much loved and respected by her crews during her time on the Island from 1973 to 1997. The Sir William Arnold was involved in hundreds of rescue missions winning its volunteer crews many gallantry medals. The most famous being the Bonita rescue in December 1981. Now privately owned, she is in the process of being restored to her former glory and used as a floating education and lifeboat experience centre.
Visitors will be able to come on board and look round and experience the sights sounds and smells of this iconic Lifeboat. Hopefully some of her former crew may also be on hand to recount their personal experiences and recollections.
