Our Spring Walking Festival is Going Virtual

Our Spring Walking Festival is Going Virtual

While we can't host our usual Spring Walking Festival this year, to avoid disappointment we are bringing a taster of this Spring celebration to you on Saturday 23rd May 2020.

The Islands of Guernsey are renowned for our fantastic walking routes and guided walks with local experts and enthusiasts are the perfect way to discover our great outdoors.

We usually host two walking festivals a year - one in Spring and one in Autumn. This year, we sadly cannot host our usual Spring version. However, we have reached out to our wonderful team of island tour guides, all accredited with the Bailiwick of Guernsey Guild of Accredited Guernsey Guides and we're taking it online to give you a taste of what walking in Guernsey is really like.

On Saturday 23rd May, we will host a series of short videos from our guides to allow you to enjoy the Islands of Guernsey from wherever you are in the world. From coastal wildflowers and seabirds to neolithic history and defence towers, enjoy snippets of our stunning surroundings from the comfort of your home.

The Little Chapel

Here are some of the highlights that you can expect:

  • A mini tour of Moulin Huet, known as Renoir's Bay as it is the place he created some of his best paintings during his month-long stay on the island in 1883. Views are now marked with a huge frame, so you stand on the exact same spot that he found inspiration.
  • Victor Hugo is a famous previous resident of the island. In Victor Hugo's Guernsey, you will get a quick overview of Victor Hugo's lesser known favourite places on the island, including what he called "the coast of mirages". See if you can spot the baboon or the camel that he saw in the rocks!
  • The occupation of Guernsey during the Second World War has forever shaped the island. On our virtual walking tour tasters, you will also get an insight into the occupation years and catch a glimpse of some of the many of the leftover forts and dolmens scattered along the coastline.
  • Learn more interesting facts about Guernsey and some of our lesser known treasures: from the recently renovated Little Chapel to virtual views of the Guernsey countryside and our wildlife, as well as a little insight into our famous Guernsey cows.
  • Get to know Lihou Island. The Islands of Guernsey are made up of 5 islands: Sark, Herm, Alderney, Guernsey and Lihou. Gold Accredited Guide, Gill Girard is taking you on a walk of Lihou, so that you can learn more about it.
