View MapThe gardens surround an old farmhouse and date from 1565. They are formed into five distinct areas over 2 acres and are cultivated for beauty, wildlife and food. There is a large mandala style permaculture area providing many different vegetables and cutting flowers alongside habitats for wildlife, ponds, lawns, herbaceous borders, two glasshouses, woodland, sculptures and an orchard.
Le Grand Dixcart is situated at the head of a sheltered woodland valley on the tiny but beautiful island of Sark. No cars are allowed on the island which mostly consists of tiny grazing fields surrounded by banks and ancient hedgerows. The horse drawn transport helps to provide the majority of our compost. Wildlife thrives here and the dawn chorus in Spring is spectacular. No light pollution also means amazing stars, but don't forget your torch! The gardens have been growing organic flowers and vegetables for 20 years and have developed to include permaculture principals, chicken tractors, a lunar sowing schedule and companion planting.
