The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
First published in the US in 2007 and the UK in 2008 The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society was written by US writer Mary Ann Shaffer and her niece Annie Barrows. When goaded by her own book club to write a novel, Mary Ann, decided to base this novel in Guernsey at the time of the German occupation during World War 2. The novel went on to be one of the greatest publishing successes in recent memory with sales of 2 million copies in the US and 250,000 copies in the UK expected by Christmas 2009.
