The main Liberation Celebrations will be taking place in St. Peter Port on Sunday 9 May – Liberation Day itself- with the majority of the island’s 10 Parishes staging their own Parish events on either the Saturday or the Monday.
Throughout Liberation Day, residents and visitors to Guernsey will be able to stroll the streets of St. Peter Port and along the sea front enjoying local live entertainment, dancing to the swinging sound of a 40s Big Band, tasting the delights of Guernsey local produce, sampling the culinary excellence from the colourful Normandy Market, choosing from a range of interactive activities for all age groups and voting for the best costume in “Dress Up Guernsey”.
The spectacle, colour and pageantry of a Liberation Celebrations Cavalcade will once again be an integral part of the day. The parade will be divided into nine categories ranging from pedestrians in costume to large floats. A major part of the cavalcade will be made up of military vehicles.
Another major focal point is the Bailiwick premier of “Guernsey Sings” – A Thousand Voices” comprising choirs, students, teachers and individuals from across Guernsey.
The evening will host a rock concert and a Liberation Firework Extravaganza.
